Sustainability Efforts
At Global Summit, PMI has an enhanced focus on sustainability as we take action to preserve our natural environment, promote a healthy and inclusive society, and execute sustainable economic practices and partnerships.
In alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) and as part of PMI’s membership in the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, we have undertaken the following sustainability measures for this year’s event.
Digital Materials
PMI is embracing the use of technology to communicate more effectively, reduce paper use, and reduce overall waste for Global Summit. All presentation materials and handouts from speakers will be digitally distributed, and the full program agenda will not be printed, but will instead be available on the Global Summit 2024 website and the mobile app.
Location Selection
We have selected as our host city Los Angeles, where sustainability has been a growing focus in recent years. The city has been working towards adopting sustainable practices and implementing initiatives to mitigate environmental impacts. The Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) is a steward of environmental sustainability and is proud to be the first of its size in the U.S. to achieve LEED EB+OM Gold recertification (2015).
Sustainable Partnerships
We have asked that all our partners keep sustainability at the center of each partner experience. We’ve reminded exhibitors to choose sustainable items and keep conservation in mind during the buildout of their experiences and programs. You will find at this year’s summit fewer handouts and giveaways, replaced by more digital materials and immersive experiences.
Efficient Water Usage
At the event, we plan to operate to high levels of water efficiency and minimize the use of freshwater from areas of high water stress. We will use water-efficient fixtures, promote water conservation, and conduct water risk assessments.
Waste Reduction
We have a minimum waste goal for the event, which will be achieved through efficient practices, ensuring sustainable waste disposal practices, reuse, and recycling. We will reduce the amount of single-use plastics, reduce packaging materials and construction waste, reduce overall organic waste through food donation, and avoid hazardous waste production.
Responsible Sourcing
By operating fair, equitable, and inclusive procurement processes for all vendors, we ensure the sustainable sourcing of food products, equipment, and materials. Our suppliers have also been encouraged to join us in meeting our sustainability goals for the event.
How You Can Help
We encourage every attendee to support our sustainability efforts and to keep conservation in mind throughout. All attendees can reduce usage of or refrain from using single-use plastics, refrain from collecting or distributing handouts, and recycle any paper, glass, cardboard, or other materials at our designated recycling stations. Attendees are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle to refill at our designated water stations throughout the event and ensure that they only purchase food that they plan to consume. Encouraging others to adopt these practices at the event – and in our daily lives – will help us all ensure a healthy, safe, and sustainable future.
